Do Something

Common Weal is a grassroots think and do tank. We only exist, and we only achieve so much, because of the incredible support of people like you across Scotland, and beyond. There are so many ways you can ‘do something’ to support Common Weal and make an impact in your local community.

When we first started Common Weal nearly seven years ago we always hoped we would grow to be a highly participative and engaging grassroots movement. Hundreds of volunteers have offered their skills and creativity over the years to help us achieve incredible things. We still get requests from many of you who say sitting back and letting things happen is no longer an option.

support us

The future can be ours – but only if we work together to make it happen. Support us to make a positive change with the important work we do at Scotland’s foremost grassroots think-and-do-tank Common Weal.

The commitment of our generous supporters who give us small monthly donations, and more if they can afford it, and the one-off donations we receive is the reason we exist and have been able to dedicate the last six years to creating policy and campaigning for social and economic equality in Scotland and environmental justice. We are wholly funded by these small regular donations.

We have a policy of seeking to never exclude anyone from access to what we do because of cost; which is why all of our materials are freely available without charge. Donations from our supporters have made this possible, and are the reason we have been able to remain advertiser free and free from vested interests and the conditions of grant funding and political interference. This has allowed us to never compromise our values. We are ambitious and truly committed to working towards creating an alternative Common Weal future but we can only do this if more supporters join us on this journey. Your donation will come at a crucial time.

The Common Weal team will be working harder than ever and thinking big about how Scotland can rebuild a better society and a resilient economy as we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic. We have a lot of important work to do in 2021 and beyond, let’s make sure that what happens next is better.

But that’s not all you can do to get involved. There’s so many ways you can ‘do something’, many of them from the comfort of your own home.

become a volunteer!

There are a variety of ways you can get involved as a volunteer with Common Weal. It can be as small as sharing our social media posts or telling a pal about one of our policies to hosting your own event or setting up a locals group in your area.

Nothing you can do to support us is too small and we are always looking for creative ways of campaigning. In the past we’ve had people crochet campaign demands and write songs and poems to express their support. We’re always open to new ideas, don’t hesitate to get in touch with yours.

Our volunteers are our most valuable asset, join them!

Social media advocates

This is for anyone who is creative and effective at social media communications who can help us spread Common Weal ideas, campaigns and events to a wider audience so we can inspire others to believe social change is both essential and possible.

We need as many of you as possible sharing our ideas and campaigns and it’s as easy as clicking the ‘share’ or ‘retweet’ button.

If you’re looking to gain more experience in comms, or have experience to volunteer please contact our Communications Officer, Becki Menzies at becki@common.scot.
