Build a new democracy for the 21st century
Scotland should revolutionise its democracy at all levels of government. From reforming local government to make it meaningfully powerful to involving citizens at the highest levels of national government through Citzens' Assemblies, Scotland could build democratic structures fit for the 21st century.
Our 20th century democracy was all about allowing citizens to choose their rulers; a 21st century democracy must involve citizens in creating the rules. There is an entire toolbox of practices, techniques and initiatives which bring citizens into the process of shaping policy and making decisions and these must become the norm throughout the process of government. We must revolutionise our democracy to keep it relevant and responsive for a new generation.
