In 2014 there were at least four very local CW groups in Glasgow including a group based in Glasgow Uni.  Legend decrees that out of this group grew a number of the young people who are now at the heart of the wonderful Living Rent Campaign.

In early 2017 Common Weal Glasgow rebirthed ourselves with a whole new group of activists, some previously involved with other  groups, some  inspired by events like Ideas Space and  the National Office’s  Locals Tour in Summer 2017, others were just  passionate a fairer world.  We’re currently based in the Southside, but we want this to change/vary because we include and welcomes people from all over our city.  Anyone who has a regular connection to Glasgow can join.

We meet once a fortnight to discuss Scottish politics - current and future forms an independent Scotland might take. We also plan and hold public events with a variety of speakers and aim to encouraging involvement in local and Scottish politics.

We’re from all political backgrounds and none but all share the national Common Weal beliefs in active local democracy and building a new, independent country that benefits everyone, not just the elite.  In the same spirit of working together we collaborate with Yes Southside and other Yes groups in Glasgow where
appropriate.

Common Weal Glasgow brings life the idea of active citizens who have a voice and can influence what kind of community we live in now and in the future. As a member of our group you will have the chance to engage with likeminded people and become part of a network of local groups in Scotland.  If you agree with Common Weal’s vision All OF US FIRST there are lots ways to get involved.

Come to an event that takes your fancy.

Chat to us at our stalls at other events, e.g. local yes events  film screenings.
See us with our banners support many of the regular public protest events at the Concert Hall steps, talk to us on social media, read our activists on Common Space.

We are also part of the Common Locals Steering group, and were very involved in the packed out Locals Gearing Up event last autumn In Perth. It is hoped other in  the coming months.
