You can download the episode directly here.
This week Jonathon Shafi and Lewis Akers discuss the global climate strikes, the anullment of the prorogation of the UK Parliament and the prospects for a General Election in the near future. From there, they discuss two of Common Weal’s policy papers which deal with vulnerabilities in our election process.
Data Protection and Democracy looks at the rise of data harvesting and micro-targeting of political adverts so that you can be shown propoganda messages that the opponents of those showing them to you cannot see and cannot counter.
Our Democracy Is Not For Sale calls for much stronger regulation of online political campaigning, more regulation of campaign funding and much stronger fines for those who breach the rules.
Common Weal’s work is only possible thanks to our generous supporters who regularly donate an average of £10 per month. If you would like to help us build our vision of an All of Us First Scotland, you can do so here: https://commonweal.scot/about/donate
The Policy Podcast would like to discuss all of Common Weal’s policy papers in detail over the next several months so if there are any papers that you would like to see covered sooner rather than later, send your suggestions in to craig@common.scot
