Episode 52 of the Common Weal Policy Podcast

You can download the episode directly here.

This week, Jonathon Shafi and Craig Dalzell discuss some of the recent political developments facing the Scottish Independence Movement including the ongoing stalemate around a second independence referendum, the SNP leadership apparently backing away from pushing for independence until the “economic legacy” of the pandemic is cleared and the resulting formation of new pro-independence political parties. Craig and Jonathon share their direct experiences campaigning for Scotland’s smaller political parties such as the Greens and RISE and look at what the challenges, successes and failures of those parties can teach anyone trying to build a new party in Scotland.

The podcast also references two of Common Weal’s policy papers. Within Our Grasp looks at a pressure campaign that could help bring about independence and the Resilience series looks at what Scotland can do to prevent future crises affecting us the way that the present one has.

Apologies for the drop in sound quality in this episode. This is due to the technical limitations imposed by the current pandemic lockdown.
